Temper is an iOS app that helps you soften reactive messages before sending them and decode hurtful messages you receive from others. It uses AI to reframe texts to be constructive, relational, and respectful.
Temper does not require an account and does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number.
The only information the app handles is:
When you type or paste a message and tap Soften or Decode, that text is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. It is transmitted securely over HTTPS. We do not store this text on any server.
If you turn on "Save text history" in the app, processed messages are saved locally on your device using iOS secure storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. You can view and permanently delete your history at any time inside the app.
If you choose to opt in, Temper will occasionally send us the message text you entered and the reframe it generated. This data is submitted anonymously — no account, device identifier, name, or other personal information is attached. We use this data solely to evaluate and improve Temper's filter. You can opt in or out at any time in the app's settings.
Temper uses Anthropic's API to process messages. When you use the app, your message text is sent to Anthropic's servers to generate a response. Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by their own privacy policy and terms of service, available at anthropic.com/privacy.
Temper does not use any advertising networks, analytics services, or other third-party data processors.
Temper includes an optional iMessage extension. It operates under the same privacy principles as the main app: text you process through the extension is sent to Anthropic's API and is not stored by us. Any locally saved history is shared between the extension and the main app via iOS's secure App Group storage, which remains on your device. Filter improvement opt-in settings apply to the extension as well.
Temper is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We'll notify beta testers of significant changes via TestFlight.
